DESCRIPTION

In the construction industry, cement paste, mortar, and concrete are the most commonly used materials, due to their easiness to fabricate, low expenditure, good performance, and versatility. Globally, around 20bln tons of concrete and more than a billion tons of cement are used annually in infrastructure and buildings. However, the drawbacks of these cement-based materials (CBMS), such as low tensile strength, susceptibility to cracking, and the likelihood of sudden failure (due to their brittle nature), are caused due to a number of reasons such as degradation in the technical properties of CBMS. The addition of admixtures, consisting of single or a combination of specific chemicals, in powder or solution form, in cement paste, mortar, and concrete, has demonstrated a substantial reduction in the above types of failures due to an increase in mechanical strength accompanied by a reduction in cost, curing time and requirement of water and cement. The general characteristics of the chemicals used in admixture include: better dispersion of cement particles, corrosion inhibition, enhancing the plasticity of cement, control over curing through intervention in the hydration process of the cement, etc. The main cement hydration product, calcium–silicate–hydrates (C–S–H) is the main phase that combines aggregates together, forming the strength and other macroscopic engineering properties of CBMS. Recently, the use of nanomaterials owing to their high surface to volume and the presence of unsaturated bonds at the surface are considered to improve the mechanical properties and durability performances of CBMS mainly through two approaches:

(1) acting as a superb filler and

(2) involving cement hydration.

In view of the great potential of nanomaterial in the construction industry, our company has designed and developed a water-reducing admixture AdMix consisting of nano-silica produced/suspended in an alkaline non-toxic aqueous solution of a polymer known for the following improvements in properties of concrete with following associated advantages.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

DISPENSING: AdMix can be added into the mixing water or directly into the concrete mixer after 50 – 70% of the mixing water has been added. The addition of this AdMix to dry aggregate or cement is not recommended. To achieve optimum performance a minimum wet mixing time, which is depending on the mixing conditions and the mixer performance, of 60 seconds is recommended.

LIMITATIONS: Excessive water addition or overdosing may cause bleeding or segregation.
